Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Perform rapid trauma assessments and provide advanced prehospital interventions in disaster environments.
- Apply USAR medical protocols for crush syndrome, environmental injuries, and confined space medicine.
- Provide medical care for search and rescue canines in high-risk operations.
- Operate effectively within a FEMA USAR Task Force as a Medical Team Specialist.
- Engage in hands-on rescue simulations involving collapsed structures and hazardous environments.
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for emergency responders and medical professionals who operate in Urban Search & Rescue (USAR) environments, including:
- Current Federal or State USAR Taskforce Members
- Paramedics, AEMTs, and EMTs
- Military medical specialists (18D, PJ, IDH/HC)
- Nurses and Physician Assistants
- Physicians specializing in emergency or trauma medicine
- Firefighters and USAR team members
Prerequisites
- Must hold a current certification as an EMT, AEMT, paramedic, nurse, physician assistant, physician, or military medic.
- Must complete the TEEX/NERRTC CBT module before attending in-person training.
- Must submit a copy of the CBT completion certificate before the course start date.

Training Location
Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC)

MUTC is a premier disaster response training facility, featuring state-of-the-art collapsed structure simulators, confined space environments, and hazardous materials training zones.
Lodging & Meals
- Onsite lodging is available onsite at MUTC (at an additional cost).
- Please note the closest hotel is 1 hour away from the training center
- Three meals are provided daily at the training facility’s dining hall or designated training areas. (at an additional cost)
- Please note the closest restaurants are 1 hour away from the training center

Course Fee
- $3,200 per student (Does not include lodging or meals).
- Enrollment Deadline: May 20, 2025 (Limited seats available).
Required Equipment
Participants must bring the following USAR-approved personal protective equipment (PPE):
- USAR helmet (ANSI Z89.1-type 1) with a helmet light
- Eye protection (ANSI-rated safety glasses or goggles)
- Hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs)
- Work/safety boots (ANSI-rated with steel or composite toe)
- Work gloves (cut-resistant or tactical gloves recommended)
- Knee pads (elbow pads optional)
- BDU-style long-sleeve work uniform
- Rain gear and cold-weather clothing (as needed)
- Flashlight
- Stethoscope
- Trauma shears
Schedule
- June 16-20, 2025
- Daily Training Hours: 0800 - 1800
- Night Training Exercise: June 19, 2025 (ends at 2300)
- Final Session & Graduation: June 20, 2025 (concludes at 1200)

- Participants will be vetted before acceptance.
- Priority goes to active Federal, State, and International USAR Members
- 2nd Priority given to US Military Members
- If we have availability we will then open the course open to General Public Public Safety Members
