    • The Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Medical Team Specialist (MTS) Course offered by North American Rescue Training and Education (NAR-T) in partnership with ABC Logistical Resources is an advanced training program designed for Paramedics, Nurses, Physician Assistants, Physicians, and military medical specialists. This course provides the knowledge and hands-on experience required to operate as a Medical Team Specialist in challenging urban and collapsed structure environments, including training in managing crush syndrome, environmental injuries, and veterinary emergencies.

      This course is designed for certified Paramedics, Nurses, Physician Assistants, Physicians, and military medical specialists (such as medics, IDH/HC, 18D, and PJs). To enroll, participants must complete an online CBT module and bring the certificate of completion to the first day of class. Participants must be vetted and registered by November 1, 2024.

      The course includes 13 hours of online learning through a computer-based training (CBT) module and 46 hours of in-person training at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. The in-person training spans five days and includes practical field exercises, live scenarios in rubble and collapse environments, a nighttime exercise, and instruction on specialized rescue techniques and emergency care for search canines.

      The cost of the Urban Search and Rescue Medical Team Specialist Course is $4,200 per student. This fee includes lodging, meals, and daily transportation within the training center. Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel to the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center. Please note that space is limited, and early registration is recommended.

      Participants must bring specific personal protective equipment (PPE) including a US&R type helmet, eye protection, ear plugs, work/safety toe boots, work gloves, knee pads, and cold weather gear. They should also bring standard work duty clothing, a flashlight, stethoscope, and trauma shears. During the course, participants are required to wear their Task Force or Department uniform.
